Barn Door Table

Hinges, and latches adorn my kitchen table. An old barn door, attached to some legs, and perfection.

The door became a beautiful kitchen table.

The plain wood legs, and base needed something, so a white wash, and paint stained clothes was a must.

Looking at all the imperfection of the door, remind me how beautiful old and used items are.

The children especially love playing with the hinge, while they are sitting on my lap.

After a couple of months, and not being able to find any vintage folding chippy chairs ( I am still looking), I decided to paint the chairs I already had.

I sanded all 6 chairs and painted them fun, bright colors, red, green, purple, orange, turquoise, and yellow.

Thank you Martha Stewart paint samples.

The children love them , and it has helped Baylie with learning her colors.

I love how unique they are! It is not every day you walk into someones home, who has 6 different colored chairs.

I added a burlap table runner, with Turquoise strips (the DIY is coming on the runner.)

An IKEA white vase, with dried Hydrangea from my sisters garden, takes center stage on this one of a kind table.

Playing games around this table, and entertaining is so enjoyable.

Check out these links my table is linked up to.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, your table. I have a barn door available to me, and I would like to use your idea. I have a couple question though. Did you have to do anything special to the door to prevent any creepy crawlies from coming out of it? Also, did you coat it with a matte varnish or any other kind of sealer to make it easier to clean up? Thanks for the inspiration.

All I used was a polyurethane clear coat satin finish. I used this to help with the clean up.

I followed you from Crazy Domestic. I have been wanting a "vintage-y" table and this so cool! You even proved my theory that you can use old stuff with bright colors, like your chairs! Great job!

I'm feeling major love for this project! Hopped over from FFF at MMS's place. So glad I did. I have a love of all doors "old". You did a fabulous job and the multi color chairs make my heart skip a beat too!

I'd like to become your newest follower.

So nice to meet you--you CREATIVE GIRL YOU!

I love it! That's so funny, I have a table made from a barn garage door. And I too painted all the chairs around it a different color. So fun!

Here are the links if you want to check them out. :)

I have some similar chairs that I'm sanding and painting, but I'm having such a difficult time getting in the cracks! What was your method?

Jennifer- I used a very small paint brush. Actually one of my daughters and that seemed to work great.

Jennifer Beard said...

I'm sorry, I should have clarified - how did you sand the cracks?

I used to have an old cellar door like this that my dad made for me. But when I moved I gave it back to him. And I think he tore it apart and made it into something else... (sigh) Love your table!

This table, in my eyes, is perfection. It's weather worn appearance that is true and natural tells a REAL authentic story. I'm in LOVE. :)

This looks amazing. I was just saying I purchased an old farmhouse table last summer, the top is verrrrrrrry rustic, and I have plans for it for outdoor dining. Yours looks wonderful, and your chairs turned out great.
